Schumacher wake-up process still ongoing, spokesperson says

Michael Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm has issued the first public statement on the seven-time world champion’s condition since doctors began the process of ending his medically induced coma. Kehm said the waking-up process is continuing and she denied various reports in the European media that the wake-up procedure had been halted due to complications.

“Michael is still in the wake-up phase – the situation has not changed,” Kehm said in an official statement. “Any medical information published which is not confirmed by the team of doctors treating Michael or his management has to be considered as not valid.”

Schumacher has been in a medically induced coma since being hospitalized after he suffered serious head injuries in a skiing accident in France in late December. He has undergone two rounds of surgery to reduce pressure on his brain. Britain’s The Telegraph newspaper reports that sources close to the Schumacher family are saying doctors treating the F1 legend, as well as other medical experts consulted by the Schumacher family, have told the family that “only a miracle” could bring about a full recovery by the all-time winning grand prix driver.
