Jordan Janway, brother-in-law of NASCAR star Jimmie Johnson, was killed Sunday in a skydiving accident near San Diego, Calif. San Diego’s CBS8 reports the accident occurred when Janway collided with another skydiver and his chute failed to open, possibly because Janway lost consciousness in the collision.

“The Johnsons are saddened by the tragic passing of Chandra’s brother, Jordan Janway, 27,” the family said in a statement. “Jordan was an incredible son, brother, uncle and friend and will be dearly missed. Please keep the Janway family in your thoughts and prayers. The family asks for privacy at this time.”
