Veteran IndyCar Series team Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will make its season debut next month at the 98th running of the Indianapolis 500. Speaking with team owner Dennis Reinbold, who took sole control of the team last year after an amicable split with Robbie Buhl, DRR is close to announcing its full plans for the month of May.
“We don’t have every single thing signed at the moment, but it’s really, really close,” he told RACER. “It’s definitely happening, and it will be Dreyer & Reinbold/Kingdom Racing. We’re close on having our driver deal done and our engine deal as well.”
Under the Panther DRR moniker, Indy car veteran Oriol Servia qualified the No. 22 Chevy 13th and finished 11th for Reinbold at Indy before sponsorship woes forced the team to park its car after the 500.
Servia will compete at Indy with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, leading Reinbold to seek a fitting replacement to pilot the Dallara DW12 chassis. 2013 Indy Lights champion Sage Karam and 2013 Indy 500 rookie Conor Daly have been among those rumored to be nominated for the drive. Chevy is also the leading candidate to power the DRR/Kingdom entry.
“Until I have it all signed, I don’t want to get ahead of things,” added Reinbold (ABOVE). “I think we’re going to come back pretty strong, and as we just said in the race shop, we move into the garages in eight days, so it’s happening and happening fast.”
Reinbold is also interested in adding a few more races to its schedule if the sponsorship can be found.
“It’s possible we could show up after Indy, but it depends how we do during the 500,” he said. “We won’t be running the Indy Grand Prix, and all we have budget-wise is the 500 right now. We have our eye on doing one or two more races, if we have the funding, and our biggest plan is to come back full time in 2015.”
