NASCAR is investigating a pitlane scuffle between Marcos Ambrose and Casey Mears after Saturday’s Sprint Cup race at Richmond.
The pair, who finished 18th and 19th, were seen arguing in the pit area and Mears appeared to push Ambrose, prompting the Australian to respond by punching Mears in the face. Team members then intervened to prevent the situation from esculating further.
Series vice president of competition Robin Pemberton says he doesn’t expect to issue any sanctions, however.
“We’re looking at the video,” he said. “It doesn’t seem to be much. We’ll take a look Monday and Tuesday.
“We don’t think it was anything too severe. We’ll get all the footage we can and look at it and see what happens from there.”
Neither team would comment on the incident and there is no indication as to what triggered the disagreement.
