Bell Helmets presents RACER’s “Dan Gurney: All American Racer,” a six-part video series, beginning Tuesday, May 6. A new episode will be presented each week for six weeks. Robin Miller (BELOW) gives us a preview of what’s in store. -Ed.

When you walk into All American Racers, it’s as much a museum as it is one of the most famous racing shops in all of motorsports. Some of the coolest cars are on display, along with awards and trophies, but nobody with any passion for Dan Gurney’s unparalleled career can negotiate the hallway in less than an hour because of all the treasure on the walls.

It’s a history lesson in pictures and covers the six decades that Gurney captivated and cultivated the masses with his driving, designing, creating and free thinking spirit.

The shots of Ruttman, Moss, Brooks, Hill, Clark, Stewart, Foyt, Andretti and Unser across from the first Eagle and Pepsi Challenger are instant reminders of why DSG means so much to so many.

RACER‘s Paul Pfanner liked the idea of a video series and so did Adam Friedman, the respected producer, director and cinematographer who loves all things Gurney and open wheel racing. Then we ran it by Evi Gurney, who is working feverishly to complete the biography on her husband by Christmas. She gave it a thumbs-up and the wheels were in motion.

So last November, the Big Eagle and I spent the better part of three hours looking at photos and talking about what certain people, places and cars meant to him. He may be 83, but Dan’s mind and memory are running on all cylinders and it’s amazing to listen to his recollection of something that happened 50 years ago.

Vertical Ascent (Friedman’s company) condensed it into six episodes and Bell Helmets came on board to sponsor the project – which we hope will be the first of many episodic endeavors for RACER.com in the coming years.

The Dan Gurney All-American RACER series debuts May 6th and runs through June 10 and I think if you care about one of the greatest drivers, thinkers and personalities to ever strap on a racecar, you’ll enjoy watching.
