Trevor Bayne has secured a full-time drive with Roush Fenway Racing for the 2015 Sprint Cup season.
The 23-year-old vaulted into the spotlight with his surprise win in just his second Cup start at the Daytona 500 in 2011, and in the four years since he has amassed 50 starts at NASCAR’s highest level. He currently races full time with Roush in the Nationwide Series in addition to a limited Cup program with Wood Brothers, and will drive Roush’s No. 6 car when he joins the team at the top level next year.
“This is obviously the biggest news that I’ve had in my life,” said Bayne.
Roush currently fields Cup entries for Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle and Ricky Stenhouse Jr, but team owner Jack Roush said that Bayne’s arrival does not necessarily mean that the team will scale up to four cars. At the announcement of Bayne’s deal in Charlotte, Roush described the team’s plans for next season as being “in a state of flux.”
Edwards and Biffle are both in the final year of their current contract.
