IndyCar: Ganassi cars go 1-2-3 in Texas practice

Target Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Tony Kanaan and Scott Dixon set the pace in Friday’s first and only practice session for Saturday night’s Firestone 600.

Kanaan, the 2013 Indy 500 winner who has only led one lap in 2014, posted the best lap of 219.382mph in the Target Dallara-Chevrolet and Dixon, the 2013 IndyCar champion who is winless this season, was close behind at 218.321mph. Ryan Briscoe, the third member of Chip Ganassi’s team, was third best in the NTT Data Dallara-Chevrolet at 217.763mph, while Marco Andretti – who dominated the first quarter of last year’s race – was the fastest Honda with a best of 217.575mph in the Snapple Andretti Autosport entry.

Helio Castroneves, who has four wins at the high-banked oval, checked in at 217.529mph in the Team Penske Dallara-Chevrolet. Rookie Carlos Huertas followed with a lap of 217.092mph for Dale Coyne.

Qualifications will air on a delay basis on NBCSN at 6:30 p.m. ET
