IMSA: Corvette DP bodywork update possible for 2015

By

General Motors was the first manufacturer to embrace Grand-Am’s custom Daytona Prototype bodywork formula entering the 2012 Rolex Series championship, and could lead its DP rivals once again in 2015.

RACER has learned GM Racing is considering a revision to its C6-themed Corvette DP bodywork for next season, with alterations to the nose, tail, and general styling to more accurately represent the new Corvette C7 model. It’s believed a final decision could be made by the end of the month. Reached for a response on Tuesday, a GM Racing representative declined to comment.

Chassis constructors Coyote, Dallara and Riley build DPs carrying Corvette bodywork, and through nine TUDOR United SportsCar Championship rounds, V8-powered Corvette DP teams and drivers hold a 1-2-3 in their respective standings.

Rival manufacturer Ford renewed its DP presence this year with turbocharged V6 engines and custom bodywork from Riley, but the Blue Oval is not expected to commission any revisions. Honda Performance Development has made some bodywork changes to improve intercooler airflow on the Riley chassis entered by Starworks Motorsport, and any further modifications are likely to follow functional requirements.
