Fresh off of a podium finish at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Michael Shank Racing with Curb/Agajanian is taking its No. 60 Honda-powered Ligier JS P2  to the streets of Belle Isle Park for the first time this weekend. The Chevrolet Sports Car Classic presented by Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers marks Round 5 of the IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

The team and its drivers John Pew and Ozz Negri have competed at the 2.35-mile, 13-turn street course in a Daytona Prototype over the past three years. Now, the squad will take to the streets in the P2 machine. Pew and Negri placed fourth in last year’s race and fifth in its Belle Isle debut in 2012.

The Detroit event marks the second street course on the 2015 TUDOR Championship calendar with the team previously having contended the Honda Ligier at Long beach in Round 3. That outing saw Michael Shank Racing gather valuable data on the new car and will put that information to good use this weekend.

Michael Shank Racing also added to its growing data notebook on the new car last week when Pew, Negri and Matt McMurry, who raced for the team in the Rolex 24, tested the No. 60 machine at NOLA Motorsports Park in Louisiana.

“We had a very good couple of days testing at NOLA,” said Team Owner Mike Shank. “When we first arrived at Long Beach, the car wasn’t as good as we needed it to be, but the big thing is that we improved it immensely over that weekend. So we feel good about where we are with the car heading into Detroit. The Belle Isle track is very bumpy so testing at NOLA last week helped us prepare the car in that regard as well.”

Following the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca event, Negri was in European Le Mans Series competition finishing fifth at Imola, racing a Ligier for Krohn Racing.

The two-day Belle Isle event will feature practice and qualifying on Friday with the 100-minute sprint race set to go green at 12:05 PM ET on Saturday. FOX Sports 2 will carry LIVE coverage of the race at 12:00 PM ET. FOX Sports 1 will televise the event via tape delay at 2:00 PM ET.
