The track most suited to IMSA’s P2s helped Michael Shank Racing’s Ozz Negri to take more than one second out of the fastest time posted by a Corvette DP in FP1. The Brazilian’s 1:09.216 in FP2 with the No. 60 Ligier JS P2-Honda was 0.663 seconds faster than Wayne Taylor Racing’s No. 10 Corvette and a decisive 0.958 seconds clear of Dane Cameron’s No. 31 Action Express Racing Corvette DP in third.

“We keep learning about the car and making better decisions as far as changes are concerned,” said Negri. “I knew what I wanted out of the car and so we went ahead and did a big change – it was actually a big one – and it showed. And the best thing is that I didn’t run new Continental Tires. To me, that’s the best thing. It will still be tough out there. I know that the DPs will figure stuff out. We are never content with what we have – we’ll still make a few tweaks and hopefully we improve the car a little bit more. It’s always good to be up front and that has been the case consistently this year.

“That just shows the kind of job that our engineer Dale (Wise) is doing with my and John’s (Pew) feedback. John (Pew) did a fantastic job, he was right on pace. It’s a great day on a fantastic track. I love this track, I love fast corners. In some of those corners my heart is popping out of my chest! I’m driving it really hard.”

The uninterrupted hour-long session also saw a new car atop the GT Le Mans class. Oliver Gavin’s No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R (1:15.741) led the GTLM runners by the slimmest of margins as Patrick Pilet in the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR (1:15.753) was just 0.012 seconds adrift. Gavin’s teammate Antonio Garcia was also right on his heels (1:15.760) in the No. 3 C7.R. The top-4 cars in GTLM all posted fastest laps of 1:15.7, and were separated by a total of 0.043 seconds.

Colin Braun led PC for the second session in the No. 54 CORE autosport entry (1:11.227) after edging past Conor Daly’s No. 38 Performance Tech Racing PC (1:11.258). Renger van der Zande was third in the No. 8 Starworks Motorsport PC (1:11.531).

Up next for the three TUDOR United SportsCar Championship classes is FP3 Saturday morning, followed by qualifying for Sunday’s Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
