Pierre Kaffer led both of Friday’s sessions – unofficially breaking his track record in the process – and had the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari F458 Italia atop the chart for much of Saturday’s session with a lap of 1:42.382 before Auberlen and three other drivers beat his time. Nick Tandy was second in the No. 911 Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSR, 1:42.198, followed by Lucas Luhr in the No. 24 BMW Team RLL BMW Z4 GTLM, 1:42.216. Seven of the eight GTLM cars eclipsed Kaffer’s year-old mark of 1:43.797.
The track record is also expected to fall in GT Daytona (GTD), as Christopher Haase led four competitors past James Davison’s existing mark of 1:47.660. Haase led the session, running a weekend-best lap of 1:47.450 in the No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Castrol EDGE Audi R8 LMS.
