Former IndyCar President of Competition Derrick Walker speaks with The RACER Channel’s Robin Miller about his time at the series, what went right, what went wrong, what he’d change, and other engaging topics in a two-part video series. Click here to watch Part 1.
Some highlights from Part 2:
“I’d like to think I helped unite the IndyCar team because they lacked somebody who could pull them together and get them working as a team.”
“The steward system needs to be kept but at least two of the stewards need to be drivers. Somebody like Little Al (Unser) would be good because he knows what he’s looking at and he needs to be one of those stewards.”
On Pole Day at Indianapolis: (“I don’t know how anybody else could have made any other decision than I made. I’m comfortable with it and I’d do it again.”
“Honda clearly had a disadvantage and it showed in the race (Indy 500).”
“I decided to leave IndyCar, nobody else. I didn’t think I could make a difference without things changing.”
