GP2: Lazarus could switch to FR3.5

Lazarus could move to next year’s rebranded Formula Renault 3.5 Series following its departure from GP2.

The Padova-based team will end four years of participation in GP2 at the end of this season after its entry was sold to leading Formula 3 outfit Prema Powerteam. Lazarus confirmed a move into a “major single-seater series” was being evaluated, and that championship is thought highly likely to be FR3.5.

Lazarus founder and team principal Tancredi Pagiaro said: “We are again evaluating an involvement in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe with one car, a Grand Touring championship where we will use our brand new Huracan GT3 car as well as a major single-seater program in a racing series that will be announced and specified later this year.”

Should Lazarus step into what is currently FR3.5, it will be the second new entry for next season.

AF Corse boss Amato Ferrari announced the creation of the new Spirit of Racing team at the end of September.

The final round of FR3.5 with overt Renault Sport backing will take place at Jerez this weekend, before Jaime Alguersuari’s RPM organization assumes responsibility for running the series.
