Frontrunning GT team Teo Martin Motorsport has taken over the entry vacated by DAMS in the rebranded Formula 3.5 V8 championship.
The Spanish team, which leads the International GT Open series with a McLaren 650S GT3 for Alvaro Parente and Miguel Ramos, has acquired the cars that took Kevin Magnussen and Carlos Sainz Jr to back-to-back titles in 2013-’14.
“I am very happy to acquire the DAMS team from the World Series, as it has a very important racing record,” team owner Teo Martin said. “Also we are very happy to have a team from Madrid fighting for European motorsport championships.”
Jaime Alguersuari Sr., boss of series promoter RPM Racing, added: “It is a pleasure to have the Teo Martin team in our championship. Its long racing history and the success over the years are the best introduction letter for a team that won’t take a long time to adapt to this news category.
“I share many values with Teo Martin, an excellent sportsman, automotive projects manager and, above all, a huge motorsport fan.”
DAMS decided to end its stint in FR3.5 to start up a GP3 team, following Renault’s decision to stop backing the 3.5-liter championship. Formula 3.5 V8 is set to start a tie-up with International GT Open next year, with the championships sharing the bill at five events on the provisional 2016 calendar.
