Daniel Abt has stepped down from the Rebellion Racing line-up for the final two rounds of the World Endurance Championship and will be replaced by GP3 racer Matheo Tuscher.

The 22-year-old German has opted to concentrate on his Formula E campaign with the Abt Audi Sport team and will miss both this weekend’s Shanghai WEC round and the championship finale in Bahrain at the end of November. Tuscher, who was runner-up in Formula 2 in 2012, has been brought in to drive the #13 Rebellion-AER R-One privateer LMP1 alongside Alexandre Imperatori and Dominik Kraihamer.

Rebellion team manager Bart Hayden said: “As a Swiss team, we like to give a chance to Swiss drivers when the opportunity arises, and Matheo has had some good results in single-seaters.

“It will be quite a learning curve for Matheo stepping into the LMP1 car for the first time at a race weekend, but he is a confident character and he knows the circuit having raced at Shanghai previously, so we are sure that he will quickly find his feet.”

Eighteen-year-old Tuscher, who is in his second season in GP3 with the Jenzer Motorsport squad, said he was “honored to be able to drive the two remaining WEC races of 2015 for Rebellion Racing”.

Rebellion’s lead entry will be raced this weekend by Nicolas Prost and Mathias Beche before team regular Nick Heidfeld, who is missing two races for family reasons, returns for the Bahrain event on November 21.
