Veteran Porsche team Magnus Racing is expected to join Stevenson Motorsports as another championship-contending member of Audi’s R8 LMS stable.

More than one source pointed to the John Potter-owned program replacing its 911 GT America with the latest R8 from Porsche’s sister German brand Audi A Magnus Racing spokesperson was unable to comment when reached by RACER on Tuesday.

Once the changeover is confirmed, at least three R8s could be on the grid for the season-opening WeatherTech SportsCar Championship event in Daytona.

With Porsche as the backbone of its program, Potter’s colorful team has been a fan favorite since joining the Grand-Am Rolex Series, and with the No. 44 Magnus Porsche, class wins at the Rolex 24 at Daytona (in 2012) and the 12 Hours of Sebring (with IMSA in 2014) have been among the team’s highlights using the 911 platform.

Although the new R8 LMS has yet to compete in America, Magnus and Stevenson should benefit from the extensive racing and data gathering efforts in Europe by Audi throughout 2015.
