MOTOGP: Iannone gets grid penalty for Ducati clash

By

Ducati’s Andrea Iannone has been handed a three-place grid penalty for next weekend’s MotoGP round at Circuit of The Americas for his clash with teammate Andrea Dovizioso in Argentina.

With the pair set to finish second and third behind Honda’s Marc Marquez in the second race of the year, Iannone overshot Turn 13 on the final lap at Termas de Rio Hondo, taking out his teammate. It handed podium positions to Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa at the end of a chaotic race, with Dovizioso eventually pushing his bike over the finish line in 13th.

The incident is the fifth time in the last six races that Iannone has failed to finish, and comes two weeks after he crashed out of the fight for the lead in Qatar.

Stewards deemed that Iannone’s move was “much too optimistic, you lost
control of your machine resulting in contact and crash of this rider.”

The Italian was handed a three-place penalty for the Grand Prix of the Americas next weekend, and had one penalty point added to his license.
