Can Anyone Stop Rob Mac?
Rob MacCachren was already having a stellar season in Pro 2 with a solid lead in the points, but a double win at Glen Helen only solidified his command of the class. Although he professed after the previous rounds in Baja that he might think about going into conservative mode, his driving at the tight, tricky and technical Glen Helen Raceway showed no signs of that.

The driver of the Rockstar Energy/Makita Tools Pro 2 holds a 64-point lead over Jeremy McGrath, who is in the middle of his best season yet, with RJ Anderson another three points back. He’s not doing too bad in Pro 4, either, although he slipped to fourth with Kyle LeDuc’s double win at Glen Helen. He’s 42 points behind leader Carl Renezeder in that class.

Menzies out for the Season
Bryce Menzies announced that he would not contest the rest of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series season in 2016. A nagging kneecap injury that makes it hard to drive for any length of time, he said on his Facebook page, needs to be repaired if he’s going to have any shot at the Baja 1000. He has decided to do the surgery, which means he will miss the final two races, so he decided to skip Reno as well. Menzies was struggling in Pro 2 due to a disqualification early in the season, but was in good position for Pro 4.

Before he goes in to repair the kneecap, Menzies will attempt to set a record for jump distance in his Pro 2, currently at 332 feet. Of course, being sponsored by Red Bull, a simple record isn’t enough. He’ll attempt the record jump over a ghost town in New Mexico on Aug. 27.

Return to the Wild West
Next up for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series is the most dramatic circuit on the schedule, Wild West Motorsports Park in Sparks, Nevada. Built in a quarry, the track features big elevation changes, including two runs up and down the sides of the quarry, with step-ups as the elevation increases and ski jumps on the way back down.

The Toyota Silver State Showdown will be a pair of day races on Aug. 13-14, with the Mod Kart race at 1 p.m. both days and opening ceremonies kicking off at 2 p.m. 2015 winners include a double for Kyle LeDuc in Pro 4, a Pro 2 double for Menzies – who will sit this one out – 2016 Pro Lite points leader Jerrett Brooks with a single win (Sheldon Creed, filling in for the injured Brad DeBerti, took the other), and Chad George and Mike Valentine splitting wins in Pro Buggy.
