The Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway has been postponed until Monday afternoon due to rain.
The green flag for the eighth race of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season was set for 2:13 p.m. ET Sunday on Fox, but persistent rain moved into the area following the Xfinity Series race Saturday afternoon.
For Monday, the race broadcast will remain on Fox, but the start is now 1 p.m. ET.
Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott will lead the field to the green flag. Larson, the point leader, was awarded the pole position Friday after rain washed out qualifying. It is the third time he has started on the pole this season. However, two of those (Martinsville Speedway and Bristol) were because of weather.
“It’s been a good season for us,” Larson said when qualifying was canceled. “Our racecars have been really fast, I’ve scored stage points in all but one of the stages. That is important to be the point leader. You’ve got to be running top 10 every race to gain as many points as you can. Like I said, our race cars have been extremely good to allow us to run up front like that. Hopefully, we can keep it going.
“It’s nice to be the point leader and be starting up front here at Bristol. I always race really well here. I just don’t qualify well. Being handed the pole like this will hopefully help us out … whenever we race. It will be cool to start from the front and hopefully, like I said, hopefully that number one pit stall kind of helps us gain some spots on pit road and have a clean race.”
Larson is seeking his second win of the season while Elliott is still searching for his first career win. Martin Truex Jr. and Brad Keselowski will start on row two with Joey Logano (a former Bristol winner) and Ryan Blaney making up row three.
Five-time Bristol winner Kyle Busch starts seventh. Kevin Harvick, the most recent winner at Bristol, will start 10th.
The garage will open at 9 a.m. Monday morning. There will be a competition caution on lap 60 once the race begins.
