Truex tops NASCAR practice at Richmond

Martin Truex Jr. was fastest in the first and only practice session Friday at Richmond International Raceway with a lap of 124.178mph.

Truex was followed by his rookie Furniture Row Racing teammate, Erik Jones. Jones put down a lap of 123.035mph after spinning early in the session. The No.77 got loose in Turn 2 and barely bumped the wall with the rear end.

Ryan Blaney was third-fastest at 122.772mph, with Trevor Bayne fourth-fastest at 122.084mph and Denny Hamlin fifth-fastest at 121.726mph.

The rest of the top 10 were Paul Menard (121.638 mph), Jamie McMurray (121.408mph), Kyle Busch (121.125mph), Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (121.011mph), and AJ Allmendinger (120.892mph).

The series will qualify for the Toyota Owners 400 at 4:45 p.m. ET.
