Larson paces final Coca-Cola 600 practice

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series point leader Kyle Larson will have to come from the rear of the field Sunday night in the Coca-Cola 600, but he has a fast Chevrolet to do so.

Saturday, Larson was fastest in the final 55-minute practice session Saturday afternoon at Charlotte Motor Speedway with a lap of 186.400 mph.

After repairing the car following a hard hit into the Turn 2 wall on Thursday, Larson’s team was unable to get his No. 42 through inspection in time. By not attempting a qualifying lap, Larson will start at the rear of the 40-car field, just as he did in Texas before rebounding for a second-place finish.

Behind Larson was Ryan Blaney with a lap of 185.861 mph. Matt Kenseth was third at 185.046 mph, Kurt Busch fourth at 184.856 mph, and Erik Jones fifth at 184.818 mph.
The rest of the top 10 were Ryan Newman (184.780 mph), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (184.433 mph), Jimmie Johnson (183.880 mph), Daniel Suarez (183.736 mph), and Joey Logano (183.705 mph).

Defending Coca-Cola 600 winner Martin Truex Jr. was 17th fastest. Polesitter Kevin Harvick was 20th.

There was one incident during the session when Brad Keselowski hit the Turn 4 wall with the right-rear of his No. 2 Ford and spun through the infield grass. The team was able to repair the damage for Keselowski to finish the session. He was 16th fastest.
