Crash ends Keselowski's Coca-Cola 600 early

By

An early wreck in the Coca-Cola 600 relegated Brad Keselowski to watching the race from home while he drank a beer and had a burger.

Keselowski took to Facebook Live to talk to his fans after crashing at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Lap 21. It was a vicious head-on hit as Keselowski barreled into the rear of Chase Elliott going down the frontstretch. Elliott’s car had started to slow after running over a piece of debris that came out of Jeffrey Earnhardt’s car as it blew up.

“I should be in the race and there should be a race going on but there’s not because it’s raining at Charlotte Motor Speedway and I am back at my house because I wrecked out,” Keselowski said. “So, bummer day.

“I’ve got a few burgers on the grill, family over, and I’m probably going to drink a few beers and tweet about it and have a little bit of fun with you guys. Try to make lemonade out of a bunch of damn lemons.”

Feeling as though he had a car capable of winning, Keselowski said it’s easy to get frustrated at the situation. But seeing it from both sides, Keselowski admitted he hates it for his Team Penske team but he’s glad everyone involved was OK.

“Ain’t very often you get a car capable of winning one of the biggest races of the year and wreck, so, that really sucks, but I’m here and going to try and enjoy it,” Keselowski said. “Just want to say I appreciate everybody’s support; we’ll roll onto next week. Whenever we are. Dover I guess. But we’ve had really good speed. Kind of the stinky part is, this race pays a lot of points and we didn’t get any. So, that’s going to really hurt, but that’s how it goes. That’s racing.

“I don’t know if I really could have done anything different. It looked like something went through Chase’s grille and I had somebody underneath me and another guy outside of me, I was in the middle of [Turn] 3, and I couldn’t really slow down. But then at the same time, Chase was slowing down in front of me. It was like, ah, where do I go? Then there was oil I ran through, wouldn’t stop, wouldn’t turn. Just one of them deals.”

Keselowski will finish 39th out of 40 cars.
