NASCAR penalties for Kyle Busch crew

By

Kyle Busch’s crew chief, Adam Stevens, has been suspended through July 3 for the left-rear wheel that came off the No. 18 Sunday at Dover International Speedway.

NASCAR handed down the penalty (Sections 10.9.10.4.c: Tires and Wheels) Wednesday afternoon.

In addition to Stevens, tire changer Jacob Seminara and tire carrier Kenneth Barber were also suspended four races. The suspension will cover the upcoming Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series point races at Pocono Raceway, Michigan International Speedway, Sonoma Raceway, and Daytona International Speedway.

After starting on the pole, Busch led the first 18 laps in the AAA 400 when the caution flag flew. On his first pit stop of the race it appeared the left-rear wheel had not been secured when the jack was dropped. On the cue of the jack, Busch left pit road and the tire came off the car as he drove on the apron toward Turn 2.

Joe Gibbs Racing will not appeal the penalty and engineer Ben Beshore will serve as the team’s interim crew chief.

NASCAR also issued the same penalty to Chase Briscoe’s truck team. Briscoe, who drives for Brad Keselowski, also started from the pole at Dover and had a wheel come off after a pit stop. Briscoe’s crew chief Mike Hillman Jr., tire changer Wesley McPherson and tire carrier Eric Pinkiert have been suspended four Camping World Truck Series point races.

“We are disappointed in the penalty that Mike Hillman Jr. and the members of our pit crew received followed the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event in Dover,” Brad Keselowski Racing said in a statement. “We are currently considering our options under the appeal process outlined in the NASCAR rulebook. Buddy Sisco will serve as Chase Briscoe’s crew chief in the interim.”
