By any standards, the misfortunes suffered by all three Toyota Gazoo Racing cars in the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans were heartbreaking.

The No. 8 of Sebastien Buemi, Anthony Davidson and Kazuki Nakajima suffered a front-motor unit issue in the eighth hour. While they were able to continue after major repairs, they slid down to 52nd place.

With just over 14 hours to go, the No. 7 TS050 HYBRID of Kamui Kobayashi, after suffering from a power failure after a safety car period, ground to a halt multiple times on its way back to the pits.

Despite Kobayashi’s efforts, the car was forced to retire.

The No. 9 Toyota retired moments later after Nicolas Lapierre collided with the No. 25 Manor ORECA of Simon Trummer at pit-out, sending both into the gravel.
