JDC Miller ORECA tops FP3 at CTMP

By

The JDC-Miller Motorsports ORECA LMP2 took a turn at the front in Saturday morning’s third practice session for the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, but the competition remained tight as just half a second covered the top six cars in the Prototype class.

The 1m09.142s lap set by Stephen Simpson in the No. 85 ORECA he shares with Misha Goikhberg was set early in the session, and edged out the fastest lap for the Wayne Taylor Racing No. 10 Cadillac DPi, set by Jordan Taylor, by 0.053s. Third was the Tequila Patron ESM Nissan DPi that set the pace in yesterday afternoon’s session, with Pipo Derani’s fast lap of 1m09.374s.

In GTLM, the Porsche GT Team continued to set the pace, although the manufacturer mix remained. A 1m14.799s set by Dirk Werner in the No. 14 911 RSR nipped Bill Auberlen’s BMW Team RLL BMW M6 for the top spot by just 0.049s. Ryan Briscoe was third in the No. 66 Ford GT, 0.3s back.

Leading GTD was the Sun Energy 1 Racing Mercedes AMG GT3 of Tristan Vautier, at 1m16.636s. Alessandro Balzan was 0.238s behind in the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3.

The session was interrupted by a red flag for a heavy crash by the No. 15 Lexus RCF GT3 driven by Jack Hawksworth, which will leave the 3GT crew with a big challenge to get the car repaired for qualifying this afternoon. However, the RaceWeatherTech No. 50 Mercedes-AMG GT3 returned to the track after its crew powered through the night to get the car back together after Gunnar Jeannette’s crash in Friday’s first practice session.
