Ford Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dirk Mueller was preparing to close the second and final practice session of the day atop the standing at VIR, but those plans changed in the dying moments of the outing as Corvette Racing and BMW Team RLL displaced the No. 67 GT.
Corvette’s Antonio Garcia dipped below last year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pole (1m41.323s) in the No. 3 C7.R to give the factory team a sweep of Friday’s fastest times. John Edwards almost eclipsed Garcia in the No. 24 BMW M6 GTLM (+0.082s) and Mueller ended up a distant third (+0.344s).
“The car is running good and we’re still trying different things,” Garcia told IMSA Radio. “Being in the top five is always a good thing.”
