Jordan Taylor set the stage for this weekend’s Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix by opening Friday morning’s practice session with the fastest lap in his No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R.

The Floridian held a comfortable lead for most of the one-hour session with his 1m18.462s blast around the 11-turn circuit, but that gap shrank in the waning moments as Ryan Dalziel found speed in the No. 2 Tequila Patron ESM Nissan Onroak DPi (+0.166s). Visit Florida Racing, first among the WEC P2s with its No. 90 Ligier JS P217-Gibson, was third (+0.583s).

With the PC class sitting out the trip to California, the Prototype runners were followed by the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GT Le Mans and GT Daytona categories.

Returning to the site of its first victory, Ford Chip Ganassi Racing went 1-2 in GTLM with the No. 67 Ford GT driven by Ryan Briscoe (1m23.344s) leading Joey Hand in the sister No. 66 entry (+0.212s). American Iron completed the top three as Tommy Milner trailed slightly in the No. 4 Corvette C7.R (+0.247s).

Daniel Morad was barely able to hold the GTD lead in his No. 28 Alegra Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R (1m25.816s) thanks to Colin Braun, who was fractionally slower (+0.015s) in the No. 54 CORE autosport Porsche 911 GT3 R. Jens Klingmann was third in the No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 (+0.219s) as the session started and finished without interruption.
