Ricky Taylor moved his No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R to the top of the third Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix practice session Saturday morning with a fast lap of 1m18.216s. Following Nissan’s pace to close Friday, the slim margin among the leading Prototype entries should ensure a tight qualifying session as PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports’ Jose Gutierrez pushed the No. 52 Ligier JSP217 (+0.069s) and an ill Ryan Dalziel shadowed Taylor in third with the No. 2 Nissan Onroak DPi (+0.078s).
The ridiculously narrow leads were also found in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GT Le Mans and GT Daytona categories.
In GTLM, Ford returned to P1 as Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dirk Muller (1m22.678s) took control in the No. 66 Ford GT. Risi Competizione’s Toni Vilander came close in the No. 62 Ferrari 488 (+ 0.093) and BMW Team RLL’s Alexander Sims claimed third in his No. 25 BMW M6 (+0.432). Vilander’s Ferrari completed roughly half of the one-hour session before it was taken back to the Risi trailer. Vilander led GTLM at the time of their stoppage.
