Ford Chip Ganassi Racing driver Richard Westbrook had the No. 67 Ford GT all to himself for the opening day of practice for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

The normal rotation in the car includes full-timer Ryan Briscoe and Scott Dixon for the enduros, but with the Australian relegated to the hotel with an illness, and the New Zealander off testing in Texas with Ganassi’s IndyCar team, the lanky Briton was tasked with finding the best chassis setup on his own.

“It feels like déjà vu to Watkins Glen [in 2016] when Ryan had to miss some sessions with their new baby on the way, so it’s nice to have all the focus on you but I have Ryan in the back of my mind because I know what he likes with the car,” Westbrook told RACER. “Our setups are pretty close. Actually, I’m starting to miss them. It’s endurance racing, sharing a car with someone else, so I look forward to both guys being back.”

With the third-fastest lap in the GT Le Mans class during opening practice and the fastest lap in second practice, Westbrook’s solo act appears to be working. Dixon, along with Sebastien Bourdais who shares the No. 66 Ford GT with Joey Hand and Dirk Muller, will be in Sebring later tonight once their flight lands from Texas. Briscoe’s fitness will be an ongoing topic to follow.
