Is that 243mph for real? If so, perhaps the windscreen will reduce the amount of additional horsepower needed from the next engine design.

WOW 243 mph!! I assume that is on the straights. That sounds like the old CART Indycar speeds. Btw that continues to look so much better than the halo.

How the hell does the windscreen add 20mph per lap! Is it merely a change in drag?

Btw after hearing Newgarden say that Rahal and Mears had windscreens, I looked at the cars from the 70s and 80s and he is absolutely correct. They were not as large as the one currently being tested but drivers definitely had them on many of the cars. I forgot about this but even the 1993 Penske CART IndyCar had a small windscreen so this should not be too big of any adjustment for today’s drivers. I wonder why the F1 version was so bad that it made Vettel dizzy after one test lap??

Take about 2 inches out of the peak of that thing and it would look a lot better. Still way better than that god awful halo though.

Wind screen looks pretty good for being adapted to a car that wasn’t originally supposed to have one. The Halo makes you wonder why they don’t just close it off completely like every other form of 4-wheel Motorsport. I bet this block more than just 12% of potential cockpit intrusions that the halo is designed for.

As a side note; it seems the rear fender just in front of the rear tire is higher than on the road/street bodywork? I can’t stand it. When the car is coming at the camera, which is most of the time, the rear tire is almost completely blocked, and ruins the open wheel look. I get why its’ there, and that final 30 minutes yesterday looked like the final practice before the 500, so where in for a good race.

Is that really picking up that much more speed? I thought trap speeds for 227 averages were in the high 230’s. I mean sure, anything that adds speed is nice, but not sure how magical the numbers are just yet. That being said adding the screen, using the qualifying boost, more engine competition, these could be some of that magic we have been missing since the 90’s.

Sure looks better than halo, but I have to wonder how it would protect the driver in the event another car gets into air and a heavy part of it comes down on the driver’s head. The halo would seem to be very protective in that scenario. Not sure about the screen.
