Ryan Newman set the pace in the final NASCAR Cup Series practice at Martinsville.
Newman, who won here in 2012, ran a lap of 95.709mph, 0.166s faster than the Chevy of playoff contender Chase Elliott (94.912mph). Defending race winner and playoff contender Kyle Busch (94.784mph), Brad Keselowski (94.510mph) and AJ Allmendinger (94.242mph) completed the top five. Keselowski led the morning practice with a lap of 95.714mph.
Playoff drivers Clint Bowyer (sixth), Martin Truex Jr. (ninth) and Kevin Harvick (10th) dotted the top 10. Playoff drivers outside the top 10 were Joey Logano (15th), Kurt Busch (17th) and Aric Almirola (21st), who had a failure with the right-front tire in the morning session.
There were no incidents in the 50-minute session.
